Angelique Muller, one of the Valletta Film Festival 2016’s programmers and curator of the “Islanders” film programme, presented at the Valletta Film Festival in June 2016, will be travelling to Zanzibar in July 2016.

ZIFF is East Africa’s largest film, music and arts festival, bringing new talents together from all over the world. Each year, some of the most captivating and cutting-edge cinema from Africa and beyond is screened in venues across the island, from world-premiers to local shorts, with a long history of showcasing the highest quality films from all over the world and providing a platform for international artists to meet.

Each year ZIFF invites a foreign festival curator to showcase part of their programming during the festival week in a programme called “Festival of Festivals”. Since Zanzibar and Malta are islands, Martin Mhand, director of ZIFF, thought that the unique concept of the ‘Islanders’ programme Angelique curated for VFF would be of great appeal for his festival audience and therefore invited her to showcase part of this section at ZIFF in 2016, putting Malta in the limelight. Angelique will present her selection of films, as well as deliver a talk about the ‘Cinema of Islands.’
