The opera Aida is supported by the Gozo Cultural Support Programme

The Festival Mediterranea will be kick started with the production of the opera Aida on the 27th and 29th October 2016. Composed by Giuseppe Verdi, this opera in 4 acts is set in Egypt. It was first performed at Cairo’s Khedivial Opera House on 24 December 1871.

Today the work holds a central place in the operatic canon, receiving performances every year around the world. The production will feature Carlo Colombara and Silvia dalla Benetta, in the title role. Enrico Stinchelli, of La Barcaccia fame, will once again be responsible for the artistic production while Prof Joseph Vella will be directing the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra for the two performances.
