Alex Vella Gera, who won the novel category with Trojan and Trevor Zahra, winner of the short story category with Vespri, will each receive a maximum grant of EUR 5000 for the translation of their award-winning work

The grant forms part of the collaboration between Arts Council Malta and the National Book Council. Last year the same prize was awarded to Immanuel Mifsud for his novel Jutta Heim. This year the prize was also extended to the short story category.

The National Book Prize is a major event in which some of the best locally published books from the previous year are given official recognition in a ceremony hosted at the Auberge de Castille under the patronage of the Prime Minister.

In 2015, the Terramaxka Prize for books aimed for children and adolescents was launched and was celebrated on the opening night of the Malta Book Festival in November 2015.
