Gabriel Caruana Foundation
The Gabriel Caruana Foundation fosters creativity and innovation within the modern and contemporary art sector in Malta. The Foundation strives to raise awareness, appreciation and participation, and to provide opportunities in modern and contemporary art. The Gabriel Caruana Foundation shall strive to reach-out, collaborate, and engage with the general public and other entities.
Teatru Salesjan
Teatru Salesjan celebrates culture, diversity, inclusion, exchange. It is a community theatre where people matter. Its purpose is to provide audiences with a space within which to enjoy the Arts as a spectator but also a place for its community to participate as creators of the Arts. Built in 1908, it is the oldest existing theatre in Tas-Sliema and one of the oldest working theatres in Malta which has been an active focus for local creativity for many generations. The theatre’s vision is to inspire its community through the Arts, on stage and off, with the goal of creating a more respectful and sensible society.
Magna Żmien Foundation
Magna Żmien is an ongoing movement set up with the intention of gathering and digitising personal and family audio-visual collections in Malta that are at risk. Its aim is to preserve this content and provide access to it for the collection owners as a free of charge public service. In agreement with the legal owners of the collections, the digital content transferred from the obsolete analogue formats is shared with the public, researchers and artists through a series of artistic and socially oriented activities in order to build narratives of Maltese local and diasporic realities. Hence Magna Żmien facilitates a growing community-based digital archive, digital and physical networking, artistic events, educational programs, and dissemination opportunities in collaboration with diverse communities in Malta and elsewhere. Magna Żmien is a community project in dialogue with technology, science and art, investigating how micro-narratives can be added to overarching narratives of representation of the country and its people.
Moveo Dance Organisation
Moveo’s mission is to create contemporary work of the highest artistic quality presented to audiences both locally as well as internationally. It provides a holistic approach to dance that goes beyond developing the physical skills of a dancer, given that it extends to promoting a healthy and positive outlook towards the world of dance and the arts as a whole. Moveo's vision is twofold: creating the highest standard of theatre productions and educating the community through its community engagement programme. Its main aim is to create theatre productions that are as accessible as they are conceptual, in order to break the current stigma that contemporary dance is only for contemporary lovers and artists. Moveo’s vision of internationalisation will continue putting Malta on the global contemporary dance map.
FPEI (Federation for the Promotion of Entrepreneurial Initiatives)
FPEI aims to promote and support entrepreneurship. It encourages all forms of entrepreneurship, from high tech, high growth ventures to creative, cultural and social enterprises. It also aims to collaborate with other local and international partners to establish new initiatives and provide tools that will help promote entrepreneurship in Malta. FPEI believes that entrepreneurial skills are essential for the economy’s ability to grow and generate employment. It believes that access to finance is the key barrier to all types of entrepreneurial initiatives, especially by self-employed and micro organisations. For these reasons, its main focus is to provide support to entrepreneurs to start-up and scale-up. These include creatives, cultural and social enterprises.
Kinemastik
Kinemastik harnesses independent expression within the arts, namely cinema, visual arts and music. It initiates and implements creative expression and celebrates cultural diversity. Its events enable the public to experience the arts outside of the establishment. Throughout the years, Kinemastik has organised filmmaking workshops and music events with key international artists. It has also invited international artists to exhibit their works. Kinemastik is focused on driving green policies across all events, especially through the creation of the Environmental League of Little Rock People, and via direct collaboration with environmental NGOs.
Inizjamed
Inizjamed is committed towards the regeneration of culture and artistic expression in the Maltese lslands and the promotion of greater awareness of the cultures in the Mediterranean. lt is a secular, non-partisan organization that acknowledges that every generation must seek to create its own language and to respond to today’s realities. It aims to foster social, cultural and artistic awareness whilst exploring various discourses related to the literary arts. lnizjamed works closely with the community and within the educational sector through its various projects, seminars, talks, workshops and festivals. It also seeks to explore and work within other artistic forms such as film and visual art.
Wicked Comics
Wicked Comics is aimed at promoting the comic culture both in Malta and abroad. Formed in 2005, Wicked Comics is responsible for the creation of a comic scene in Malta. Ever since its inception, Wicked Comics has given local comic artists and enthusiasts the opportunity to learn more about this component of popular culture, and has continued to provide suitable platforms for local artists to home and showcase their skills. With Wicked Comics’ help, the local comic scene has grown exponentially and is now recognised all over the world. Wicked Comics has been herald for local comic talent for the past 11 years and its event Malta Comic Con is part of the International Comic Con calendar.
Opening Doors Association
Opening Doors Association works for the promotion of and active involvement of persons with learning disabilities in the artistic and creative sector. It runs performing arts training sessions, produces performances and organises open-air Jams in various localities. Opening Doors aims to: - create opportunities for people with learning disabilities to participate in artistic and creative activities in Malta and abroad - create ongoing training opportunities for people with learning disabilities to develop artistic skills that manifest in expressions of artistic quality - raise the profile of the contribution people with learning disabilities can make to the creative sector - create opportunities for European and international travel and exchange with other artists and organizations whose profile addresses the inclusion of people with disabilities in the creative field - operate consistently in a manner that ensures that all of its actions are underlined by full accessibility, both physical and intellectual. Opening Doors also provides the necessary support for the growth and development to the full of its members’ artistic potential.
Electronic Music Malta
EMM aims to promote electronic music in Malta. The forms of music include electronic music performance, composition, production, recording, engineering and mastering. EMM also aims to raise awareness on education, documentation, restoration of equipment, innovation in this form of music and joining up of electronic music with other moving or static art forms. Its approach to electronic music is an inclusive one whereby different forms of music and cultures can benefit from each other. EMM has maintained a steady, interesting programme of highartistic excellence consisting of discussions, screenings, talks, workshops and yearly conference Circuits. In 2020 EMM will work on a new strategy focusing on three main strands: performances, research/innovation and education.
Soċjetà Mużikali Beland A.D. 1861
The Society’s principal aim is to teach music and be a source of genuine entertainment for its members and the general public. The vision of the Beland Music Festival is to be a platform for the development and promotion of local artists in the musical sector. The Festival strives to provide an opportunity to showcase local talent to a wide audience while performing on stage with other local and established artists.
Għaqda Mużikali San Ġużepp Ħal Għaxaq
The Band Club is mainly responsible for the organisation of the feast of Saint Joseph that is annually celebrated in Għaxaq during the first week of June. It is also a School of Music whereby music tuition is provided for free. Its vision is to improve the quality of concerts and to showcase local and international artists. Thus the Club aims to invest in the Ghaxaq Pre-Summer Music Festival which will serve as a platform for upcoming bands.
Għaqda Mużikali Santa Marija Ħal Għaxaq
The founding ethos of the Society is the organisation of the village’s annual patronal feast on August 15th, whilst preserving intact the cult associated with the Assumption. It aims to financially sustain its operations whilst presenting relevant cultural, artistic and viable events accessible to the general public. The Society aims to target the community at large.
L-Għanja tal-Poplu
L-Għanja tal-Poplu – Festival of the Maltese Song - Festival tal-Kanzunetta Maltija is organised annually. The festival includes information meetings, song selection, live presentation of semi-finalist songs in front of judges, and the final evening where songs are presented at Pjazza Teatru Rjal accompanied by the Malta Concert Orchestra. The event is broadcast live on Television Malta (TVM). The mission of the organisation is to encourage and mentor song writers and composers to create quality songs in the Maltese language and award and promote songs in Maltese to generate appreciation among Maltese population.
Blitz
Blitz is an international arts space. It bridges the gap between Malta’s Government owned and operated institutions, and artist studios also functioning as artist galleries, by providing a sustainable platform for contemporary art to be shared, discussed and engaged with by a diversity of audiences through its outreach programmes. Since 2013, Blitz has organised over 30 group and solo exhibitions, conferences, workshops, talks and children’s activities, with prestigious international collaborations such as Royal College of Arts (London) and Central Saint Martins University of the Arts (London). In 2015, Blitz was also selected by the highly competitive Art Basel Crowdfunding Initiative, and in 2016 Tate featured it in its BP Art Exchange Programme. Since 2019, Blitz has kicked off a new series of exhibitions with established international artists such as Rossella Biscotti, Rob Pruitt, Cory Arcangel, Amalia Ulman and Simon Denny.
Fondazzjoni Temi Zammit (FTZ) Community Foundation
FTZ-Community Foundation (FTZcom) was established as a non-profit organisation to take over the aims and activities of the Fondazzjoni Temi Zammit. Its objective is to promote local and community development by implementing projects of benefit to the community, mainly operating in the sphere of culture and the arts. It also supports Local Councils and other organisations to participate in European programmes. Over the years, FTZ / FTZcom have implemented numerous projects in the cultural sphere. Examples include ICE: Incubators for Cultural Enterprises, funded through Interreg MED and led by CIMAC of Portugal, BooGames: Boosting the European Games Industry and EuroScreen: Screen Tourism, both funded through Interreg Europe and led by the University of Coventry and Film London respectively, as well as Future of Our Past, an ENPI CBC-Med project led by Società Geografica Italiana which focused on the cultural revival of Strait Street.
